Awareness and Community Outreach Program – Kartar Nagar, Delhi

On December 18, 2025, MAIN Delhi celebrated International Migrants Day by organizing an awareness and community outreach program in Kartar Nagar, Delhi. The event brought together migrant families from Bihar, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand.

The program aimed to recognize the invaluable contributions of migrant workers to urban development while addressing the challenges they face in accessing government welfare schemes and essential services. Migrant communities often struggle with documentation issues, lack of awareness, and limited access to social protection benefits. Keeping this in mind, MAIN designed the event as both a celebration and an empowerment initiative.

Awareness on Government Schemes

During the session, the MAIN team provided detailed information about various central and state government schemes, including:

  • Labour welfare and social security benefits
  • Health insurance and maternity benefits
  • Education support for children
  • Ration card portability and food security schemes
  • Pension schemes for unorganized workers

Participants were guided on the application process, required documents, eligibility criteria, and where to seek assistance. Special emphasis was placed on ensuring that migrant workers understand their rights and entitlements, regardless of their state of origin.

The interactive format of the program encouraged participants to ask questions and share their experiences. Many families expressed that lack of information is one of the biggest barriers they face. Through this initiative, MAIN reaffirmed its commitment to bridging that information gap.

Activities for Children

The event also created a joyful space for children from migrant families. They actively participated in group activities and interactions. To encourage their involvement and bring smiles to their faces, snacks were distributed, and each child was gifted a lunchbox.

This small gesture symbolized care, inclusion, and the importance of supporting migrant children’s education and well-being.

Building Trust with the Community

The presence of the Director and staff of MAIN helped build trust and stronger relationships with the migrant community in Kartar Nagar. Such outreach programs are essential for creating a support system where migrant families feel heard, respected, and guided.

Conclusion

International Migrants Day is not only a day of recognition but also a reminder of the collective responsibility to ensure dignity, protection, and equal opportunities for migrant workers.

Through this initiative, MAIN once again demonstrated its dedication to empowering migrant communities and helping them access their rightful benefits.
