On May 1st, 2025, MAIN proudly organized an inspiring International Labour Day celebration at the Indian Social Institute, Lodhi Road, Delhi. The event brought together around 160 participants, including migrant workers, community leaders, civil society representatives, students, and social activists, to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of workers to our society. The program commenced with a warm welcome address by the MAIN team, highlighting the significance of International Labour Day and reaffirming our commitment to safeguarding the dignity, rights, and welfare of migrant and informal sector workers. The gathering observed a moment of solidarity to honor the resilience and hard work of labourers who continue to build and sustain our cities under challenging circumstances.
We were privileged to have Mr. Vishesh Ravi, Hon’ble MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party from Karol Bagh, Delhi, as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he appreciated MAIN’s consistent efforts toward empowering migrant communities and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between government bodies and civil society organizations. He spoke about policy initiatives aimed at improving access to social security, healthcare, housing, and education for workers in the unorganized sector. He also assured continued support for initiatives that promote workers’ rights and social protection.
The event featured interactive sessions where migrant workers shared their lived experiences, challenges, and aspirations. Participants discussed key issues such as access to identity documents, portability of welfare benefits, safe working conditions, fair wages, and social inclusion. These conversations created a platform for meaningful dialogue between the community and policymakers.
Cultural performances by community members added vibrancy to the celebration, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of migrant workers and reinforcing the message of unity and solidarity. The program also included the distribution of informational materials on labour rights and government welfare schemes to help participants better understand and access their entitlements.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, participants, partner organizations, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the event.
Through this International Labour Day program, MAIN reaffirmed its mission to stand with migrant workers, advocate for their rights, and work collectively toward building a more inclusive and equitable society where every worker is treated with dignity and respect.
